The 24th International Festival of Piano will take place July 22nd to August 24th, 2004. After the outright success of last summer’s 23rd edition and its more than 71,000 spectators, the International Piano Festival of La Roque d'Anthéron is laying out its grand outline for 2004. From July 22nd to August 24th, over 50 pianists are expected on the Chateau de Florans Park’s new stage, in recital or accompanied by the many choirs and orchestras invited by Artistic Director René Martin. Young talent from across the globe (like Vitaly Samoshko, Ju-Ying Song, and Lisa de la Salle) have been invited to work side by side with some of the biggest stars on the international scene, such as Nicholas Angelich, Richard Goode, Hélène Grimaud, Nelson Freire, Mikhaël Pletnev, Lars Vogt, Arcadis Volodos, Christian Zacharias, and more.
As for the repertoire, the Artistic Director has chosen once more to do beautiful, integral performances in « my own musical quest to reach the same heights as spiritual quests ». And what better place to do this than La Roque ? Under the starry Provence sky, in the shadow of the Park’s hundred-year-old plane trees, you’ll hear the complete piano works of Schubert for four hands, interpreted by Christian Ivaldi and Jean-Claude Pennetier. You can also experience Schumann’s complete solo piano works, presented August 2-5, through the diverse playing of artists like Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, François Frédéric Guy, Emmanuel Strosser, Nicholas Angelich, Claire Désert, Marie-Josèphe Jude and Philippe Bianconi.
Jazz will once more be top billing at the La Roque d'Anthéron International Festival of Piano with some of the biggest names on the international scene, including loyal favourites Chick Corea and his Elektric Band.
The definitive programme (available soon) will give you everything you need to know for this special 2004 season. Prepare your musical escape to the south of France as soon as you can. Don’t forget, it’s from July 22nd to August 24th!
